About Us
A publishing company built on a dream.
Stephen and Mus White understand dreams. With a $4000 investment in 1975, they opened a fledgling photography gallery in Los Angeles and turned it into one of the most respected photography galleries in America, representing such significant photographers as Lotte Jacobi, Karl Struss, Ruth Bernhard and Michael Kenna. Stephen White was the founding president of AIPAD, and organized the first photo fair in New York. The Whites worked with major museums and collectors. In 1990, they made history when they sold their own photographic collection to a Japanese museum for a record sum.
In 2005, the Whites turned their attention to the publishing world. Experienced in publishing photographic books and catalogues, they sought a new challenge, and they found it in Sunswept Press.
Despite the many challenges that confront a small press, the Whites recognize a need for such an enterprise. Just as they brought to light and prominence previously unknown photographers, they are now ready to discover past and present writers of talent overlooked by larger companies.
